Are You Playing Minecraft in Survival Mode?
A few weeks ago, we talked about playing Minecraft in Creative Mode. This is pretty much a happy world full of sunshine, rainbows and opportunity, right? Today, we’re going to be taking a different turn…
How would you handle being dropped in the middle of nowhere? Now imagine having nothing but your bare hands to fend off hordes of Zombies, Creepers and Endermen. The game can go however you want it to…depending on your skill level! Minecraft can keep you on your toes in Survival Mode, where you will be pitted against the elements and all the spookiest creatures in all Minecraftia!
What Do You Do First?
When you first find yourself entering Survival Mode, you’re going to need to procure some tools! That’s going to make your life a bit easier. We recommend taking down the nearest tree and digging up some stones to get started. A pickaxe (crafted by adding 2 sticks + 3 units of tool material), sword (crafted by using a stick + any wood planks, cobblestone, iron ingot, gold ingot or diamond) and axe will be perfect for your first steps towards becoming a Master of Minecraft. These are the tools that will help you to gather the resources you need!
Build Your Shelter
The next thing you will want to focus on is shelter. You can either find something temporary or build one for yourself. After all, it’s probably getting dark outside! The dark is not your friend, at least not when you’re first starting out. Through the trees and gloom, Zombies start appearing, accompanied by Skeleton Archers and Creepers. So watch out! Remember, they have one goal in the game and that is to eat your brain. If your luck is really running low, you may also find yourself coming up against even more difficult antagonists, such as Enderman or Witches!
Did You Survive the First Night?
If so, congrats! Not everyone does…Bwa ha ha ha ha! But if you’re one of the lucky few, then it’s time to build a house! This is when you get to start being creative in your Survival world. Start by gathering wooden planks and any other materials you may want to use in the construction your dream home…or at least four walls the zombies can’t get through. The housing essentials should – at the very least – include a bed, a furnace for cooking, a crafting table for building your world and some chests so you do not lose everything when you realize that you’ve bitten off more than you can chew.
So what’s next? Now that you’ve got tools and shelter covered, it’s time to go out into the depths of the earth! Let’s put the MINE in Minecraft!! Seek out precious resources like diamonds and iron. They’ll help you make better tools, establish a farm and even build a pen for some animals. That will help you ensure that you always have a reliable food source. Eventually, you’ll even be able to meander into nearby villages and trade with the people there. Remember, this world is nearly infinite and can be very versatile. How much effort you put into setting up your homestead is really up to you!
Feeling Froggy?
Once you’ve somewhat established yourself, it’s time to find some adventures! If you have some diamond tools, we recommend mining for obsidian so you can build a portal to the Nether! Just remember, the Nether is not a friendly place, and a Nether fortress poses quite the challenge to passersby. And whatever you do, steer clear of those Pigmen! Even though the Nether can be a bit scary, it does open up a lot of new items and tools, and a way to get to your final objective!
Facing the End
After months of preparing, you should finally be ready to face The End. When you find The End, you will enter a portal that leads to an alien world. High above, you’ll see the terrifying Ender Dragon…and then you’ll notice a swarm of Enderman ahead, just waiting to attack. What will you do?!
